Letter rack and Gilding flakes

I have had the blank MDF letter rack hanging about for months so I thought I would paint it and show you can use gilding flakes on wood as well as paper.

The rack was painted with Kaisercraft acrylic paint , then I dry brushed a darker colour over the top to age it. Next I used a crackle stamp to make a distressed look all over the back and front with a Adirondack ink pad. I then stamped the flourish stamp a few times from Indigoblu with Flitter glu and applied the flakes and buffed off as you usually would.

I stamped the verse on a piece of card and then added some stamps from another Indigoblu set and gilded certain areas. Finally I stamped  butterfly from the set onto acetate and using the new Cosmic Shimmer flake glue that comes in a bottle like a nail varnish, I applied the glue to the reverse side and waited for it to go tacky then applied flakes and buffed off excess. This was then attached with some foam pads to create dimension.

Lastly, I took some patterned paper from the shop and covered the inside of the rack to give it a more finished look.

A demo day card

As I said yesterday I had a lovely day on Saturday at the shop demoing how to use gilding flakes.

This card was one I had made to show how to use double sided adhesive sheets and your gilding flakes. The border punch is from EK Success and I wont lie its tricky to do and would work better on some metal border dies. The leaves are Spellbinders dies that have been run through the machine with a thin sheet of adhesive sheet on a thin layer of card and then the top layer peeled off and the flake applied. The small holes in the stamp have been made with a cropodile punch again with double sided adhesive.

Products used:

Stamps: Woodware Bubble Bloom Clarrisa, Inkylicious Flowers that Bloom
Dies: Spellbinders leaves
Punches: Ek Success Arbor border punch, Nellie Snellen Floral Punch
Gilding Flakes: Indigo Blu Yorkshire Dales

Back tomorrow with more samples.

Brayering Class at Forget Me Knot

I need to have a catch up session and I promise I will over the next few days. Today though I had a Brayering class so here are the details of what the ladies did this morning.

Both cards are very simple designs, just so that they could get the hang of Brayering and blending

Stamps: Inkylicious Flourishing Vine, Woodware Tag Builder
Inks: Distress Ink Milled Lavender, Tumbled Glass, Black Soot, Adirondack Salmon

The next card uses a brayer and embossing powder to create and resist effect. The damask stamp was stamped over the card and embossed with clear embossing powder. The brayer was then rolled over the card and any excess ink rubbed away with kitchen roll.

Cosmic Shimmer class

At last I am up to date on class prep etc. so I can now update this blog with some recent classes.

Todays post is all about the Cosmic Shimmer class I did the other week. The first card uses the Cosmic Shimmer powders. This is very hard to photograph as its difficult to hold and take a picture when the shimmer is at its best. In real life it has turquoise and green hues of colour running through it.

products used:

Stamps: Inkylicious Alliums and Tumbling Vines and Justrite fancy sentiments.
Inks: Black Archival, Versamark
Cosmic Shimmer powders : Gold and Antique
Extras: Black ribbon and Gold Nailheads.

The second card uses Cosmic Shimmer mists to make a background and then that piece was dried and embossed with a 6" square template. A aperture was cut with a square die and the sentiment stamped and embossed with Black ink and clear embossing powder onto some pearl card. The butterflies were stamped and embossed as well and then coloured in with the same powders used in the previous card but mixed with water to make a paint.

Products used:

Stamps: Inkylicious Gentle Breeze and Artemio Butterfly's
Mask: Crafters Workshop Flower Frenzy
Cosmic Shimmer: Mists Pearl and Teal Wash, powders Antique Tones
Extras: Black pigment ink, clear embossing powder, Black pearls.

I will be back soon with some cards made at a Pan Pastels class, enjoy the sunshine
